Darby stop being creepy!

For Keeeeem

Why do you like creepy things so much? you do it so tactfully, and not in the cheesy Burton Fangirl way thank fucking god. it seems like everything you do and what you are planning to do are on the scary side. I am going to consider you a horror cartoonist, if that's okay!

hahah stop it I am blushing now. OK if I don’t do it in a Burton Fangirl way then I’m doing it in a Ghibli Fangirl way probably heh.

I don’t know why I like creepy things so much. I actually don’t watch scary movies at all, I totally avoid them. I don’t like that sort of “BOO!” tactic that a lot of scary movies do. I hate the feeling of jumping out of my seat, I just want to relax and watch a fucking movie and maybe have thoughts about it.

I’ll tell you what though, some John Carpenter movies really stuck with me. Mainly Big Trouble, They Live and Prince of Darkness. There was a wonderful mix of spooks and laughs, and as a little girl the play with humor comforted my easily scared brain! Akira was also a big player. There was no humor in it, but as a 7 year old I never experienced that sort of discomfort.

I had wonderful older brothers who helped shaped my visual vocabulary I guess.

would you consider yourself a horror cartoonist? your Asylum comic and the future one with that cat are sorta scary!

Anonymous

Mmm I don’t think I’ve done enough to consider myself a this or that type of cartoonist. I do love spooky and even moody things, then I also really like humor. I’m still laying out all of that Cat Dude comic, but I know I want it to involve all of that plus some action.

The Asylum comic actually creeped people out more than I thought it would, where people would go off assuming (SPOILER ALERT!!!?) the bear killed/ate the girl. Even though that wasn’t really what I had in mind, I absolutely LOVED that people interpreted in so many ways and even more than what I had intended. Kinda funny, I mean I guess it’s sorta bad that not a lot of people took it the way I meant, but I think I like it a lot more that it’s so open-ended now.

TLDR I am still a baby cartoonist I don’t consider myself a ‘horror cartoonist’ but I like the creepy things.

Hi Jen, this is Ian, I'm not pulling anything together nor do I know anything about ink or China. But I do hate you forever for going having a burrito without me today. I feel as though you should know this.

What can I do, I am only human! I cannot say no to a free burrito…

Hi Jen! Popcube (the author of Constellations at Ankama editions) and myself, are pulling together the second issue of the "Encre de Chine" fanzine. It has both ink and China (as a country) for main theme. Famous authors, less known ones and the ones that should be, coming from all over the world take a part in this fanzine. This fanzine is exclusively composed of comic strips and illustrations in black and white or grayscale in lanscape format A5 between 40 and 68 pages.I am truly admirative
